"Will you cash this check?" he asked the teller.

"Of course," the teller replied. "Just sign the back, and I’ll give you the money."

The man hesitated. "I don’t want to sign my name first. What if you decide not to give me the money?"

The teller reassured him, but he still refused. He went to another bank, then another—each time resisting the policy. Finally, at the third bank, the teller grew frustrated, grabbed a rubber baseball bat, and whacked the man on the head.

"Sign the check!" the teller demanded.

Dazed, the man signed his name and, without hesitation, was given his money.

Walking back to the first bank, he declared, "See! I got my money down the street!"
